It may be noted that some clinicians, particularly in the case of the Halstead-Reitan Battery, use only some of the tests, often adding to them other tests not included in the battery. These individuals would not be viewed as users of the fixed battery approach, since such use requires that all of the tests need to be administered. There have been changes in the Halstead-Reitan Battery over the years, but most authorities would agree that there has been a stable core battery that has persisted since its beginning.

Probably, most of the work in the area is researched with animals, and involves laboratory, or sometimes field studies, usually of brain function, but sometimes involving the spinal cord and peripheral nerves.
