The overall performance of the phase-conjugation system can be characterized by its ability to simultaneously suppress turbulence-induced phase distortions and wavefront sensor noise. The properties of individual components of the system are most conveniently described by a frequency-domain transfer function, which is applied to the power spectrum of the input disturbance; these transfer functions are described in Fig. 10. The net transfer function of the loop also depends on the point at which the disturbance is applied ( 1 8).
